Welcome to chatwithlily (also referred to as "Lily", "we", "us", or "our"). chatwithlily is a mobile application operated by Longwu Liang ("Developer"), an individual developer. We are committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use our mobile application (the "App") and related services. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide to Us
Account Registration: When you register, we collect your email address and password (encrypted). If you log in via Apple or Google, we receive your authentication token and basic profile information (such as your email and name).
User Content (Sensitive Data): This is the core of our service. We collect the journal entries, text chats, mood logs, and onboarding responses (e.g., your goals, stress reasons) you voluntarily input.
Audio Data: When you use the voice chat feature, we collect your voice recordings.
Important: Voice recordings are uploaded solely for the purpose of speech-to-text transcription. We delete the raw audio files from our servers immediately after the transcription is complete. We do not retain raw audio recordings.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically
Device Information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (e.g., IDFV), and system language.
Usage Data: Logs regarding your interaction with the App (e.g., features used, session duration, timestamps). We retain these server logs for approximately 6 months for security and debugging purposes.
Location Data: We collect general location information (e.g., time zone, approximate region based on IP address) to sync your journal dates. We do not track your precise GPS location.
2.3 Permissions
To provide specific features, we may request access to your device's:
- Microphone: Strictly for recording voice notes or chatting with the AI.
- Photo Library/Storage: To allow you to attach images to your journal entries.
- Notifications: To send you daily reminders or emotional insight reports.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality.
- To facilitate AI-driven emotional support and generate personalized insights (e.g., "Insight Reports").
- To process payments and manage your subscription (via Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
- To verify your identity and prevent fraud.
- To send you technical notices, updates, and marketing communications (which you can opt-out of).
- AI Training (De-identified): We may use anonymized and aggregated text data (stripped of all personal identifiers) to refine our AI models and improve service quality.
Legal Basis for Processing (EEA Users)
If you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and using your personal information depends on the specific information and the context:
- Performance of Contract: We process your Account Information and User Content to provide the chatwithlily service to you.
- Consent: We process your Audio Data and specific sensitive emotions based on your explicit consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate Interests: We process Usage Data to improve security and prevent fraud.
- Legal Obligation: We may process data to comply with applicable laws.
4. Data Sharing and International Transfers (Critical)
4.1 Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with trusted third parties to operate the App. By using the App, you explicitly acknowledge and agree to the following data transfers:
- AI & Speech Processing (Volcengine): We use Volcengine (ByteDance) to provide Large Language Model (LLM) and Speech-to-Text services. Your text and audio data will be encrypted and transmitted to servers located in the People's Republic of China for processing. We have entered into strict data processing agreements to ensure your data is protected during transmission and processing.
- Cloud Storage: We use secure cloud storage services to store your encrypted journal data.
- Payment Processors: Transactions are processed by Apple or Google. We do not store your full credit card details.
- Authentication: We use Google and Apple services to facilitate secure logins.
- Analytics: We may use third-party analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or Firebase) to help us measure traffic and usage trends.
4.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or if we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of chatwithlily, our users, or others.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Retention: We retain your personal data generally for as long as your account is active. Server logs are retained for up to 6 months.
Account Deletion: You can request to delete your account via the "Delete Account" option in the App Settings.
Process: Once requested, your account enters a 48-hour grace period (during which you can withdraw). After 48 hours, all your data (journals, chats, account info) is permanently and irreversibly erased from our databases.
6. Security
We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect your data, including HTTPS/TLS encryption for data in transit and Argon2 hashing for passwords. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately.
8. Your Rights
